Working from home is something that we’ve all had to get used to over the past year, but many of us are still struggling to make it with our lifestyles. Many of us would much prefer to head back to an office where we can focus on our work and not be distracted by things around the house.

Establish a more comfortable working environment
One of the issues with working from home is that many of us just aren’t prepared for it. Many of us don’t have an extra room in the house to turn into a study and we might not even have a suitable desk for it. If you’ve been suddenly thrust into a remote workflow then it’s a good idea to set up some kind of working environment so that you can feel more comfortable. This also helps you stay organised when working from home. There could be lots of situations where you can’t find a certain document or tool and you spend more time looking for it than actually working. In cases like this, it would be wise to establish a proper working environment before you do any serious work.
Make using your laptop more comfortable
Laptops are called laptops because we can use them on our laps. However, that’s not exactly the optimal way to use them because we bend our neck too much and it can get really uncomfortable. If you’ve been using your laptop while you sit on a sofa or the bed then it’s going to get extremely painful after a while and you may develop bad posture habits. Instead, we suggest making it a little more comfortable by finding the best ergonomic laptop stand that you can afford. Together with this, get yourself a keyboard and mouse so that you can use it at a more comfortable height where you don’t need to bend your neck in an uncomfortable way. If you’re going to be spending a lot of time on your laptop, then it’s a good idea to at least care about your posture.
Dealing with distractions that disrupt your work
Working at home is extremely difficult if there are a number of distractions that keep you from focusing. Whether it’s your children, partner, the TV, the radio, or even your neighbours, there are many more distractions to keep in mind especially if you don’t have an isolated study to work from. As such, you’ll want to learn how to deal with those distractions. A simple solution is to wear a great pair of noise-cancelling headphones to block out unwanted noise that could distract you, but it might also be a good idea to tell your family members that you need a bit of peace and quiet when working.
