The Things People Won’t Tell You About Your Career Change

When it comes to following your dreams, the first place to start is with your career. You could be stuck in a rut with your current job, or about to embark on a whole new career right out of college. Either way, you need to follow your dreams and let them take you to the place you feel happy and satisfied.

When you have been in a role for some time, you can get a little stagnant with it. You may have been working hard to achieve something, but found that your head is hitting the ceiling in your career. It happens: there is only so much that you can get out of one place at a time, so why not move onto something that’s going to help you to achieve?

A career change is a process. You can’t just decide one day to drop your job and go and do something else. Well, you can, but it’s not always the best way to go about it. You need a carefully executed plan to ensure that you have the right frame of mind when you do decide to go ahead and change careers. There are a lot of opinions from others that you will encounter when you announce that you want to make a change. You could be taking a step back to research business degree schools online, or you could be going for a better and more intense role. No matter which way that you do it, you need to plan! There are challenges that you will need to overcome, and there are some things you’re going to encounter when you do decide to go for it. So, here are eight things that you will come up against when you choose to change careers.

You’ll Doubt Yourself.

No matter how positive this change will be for you, you’re going to encounter doubts. Of course, you will – you’ve been comfortable for a long time, and it’s time to get a little uncomfortable for a while. You may not be used to this idea, and yet you need to push past the doubts and go after what you really want.

Your People May Not Get It

You expect support from people who love you, but expectations can often be missed. It would help if you remembered that there is no obligation for them to “get it”. They only want the best for you, so it’s natural for them to have some questions about your motives with this choice. Let them have their inquiries, and let them be cynical about it. It’s your life!

You’ll Feel Unqualified

When you go back to night school or online school to get a business degree, you are going to feel unqualified and out of your depth. It’s natural. You’re going to learn how to do it all, and you’re going to get the degree that you want. You just have to believe in yourself that you can do it! Picking the right school is a crucial part of all this; you won’t want to change your life and turn it all upside down only to find that you’ve made an error and the school you’ve chosen isn’t all you thought it would be. Make sure you do your research first, and check out the business, nursing, teaching, or medical schools ranking before you sign up. That way you’ll be even more sure you’re doing the right thing.

It’s Going To Be Scary

A career change is scary. You’re going to feel a lot of emotions, but one of them that will stand out is fear. You’re going to feel afraid of what’s ahead and what you don’t know. You’re also going to be scared of not qualifying properly or doing well. It’s the risk that you take when you go for a new career.

You’ll Discover You All Over Again

When you’ve spent so long pushed down in a job that you know didn’t appreciate you, you get used to a whole new way of doing things in a new area. Your career change is going to show you new parts of yourself that you didn’t know existed. You are going to go through a lot of emotions to go through this change, but you’re going to find a new resilience and a hunger for something new that you didn’t know you had.

Haters Gon’ Hate!

You will have people questioning your choices, thinking you’re crazy for giving up a secure job for something else. Those people do not matter. They are doing no more than projecting their own fears onto you. They are envious that they haven’t had the same courage to do the same thing. That’s not your problem, so rise above any whispers. You’re an adult.

Supporters Gon’ Support!

The opposite of haters are supporters, and you will have plenty of those in your corner, cheering you on. Focus on their positivity and make it so that your supporters are the loudest voices that you hear. You’re not doing this for anyone except you!

You’re Going To Love It

The initial process of changing your career may be scary and tough and may involve going back to school, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t love the changes ahead! Embrace them: they’re going to change your life.
