College Majors that Students Wish Actually Existed

Did you ever think, “Man, it would be great if I could have my college major in _____?” Between all the various social media sites and my own personal interactions, I’ve heard some very interesting and quite entertaining answers lately.  Now if only they could actually make jobs to go along with these random majors so that you could make money for doing something wacky or fun!

Eating Anything

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard eating pizza, chocolate, ice cream, or anything else listed as a college major that students wish existed. I mean seriously… how could you complain about eating foods you actually enjoy?! Sure, there are taste testers and such, but I feel like their palettes are so particular that it takes any fun out of the job. I think classes for this kind of major would look something like this:

1. Find tons of Pinterest recipes for the desired food
2. Cook desired food
3. Eat food until full
4. Repeat

The College Major in Thomas Rhett’s Song

If you’ve listened to any country music in the past year, odds are that you’ve heard the Thomas Rhett song that says “You’re shakin’ that money maker, like a heartbreaker, like your college major was twistin’ and tearin’ up Friday nights…”

Now, I’m sure you could define “twistin’ and tearin’ up Friday nights” in tons of different ways, so I’m just going to leave that option up to you. For me, that would involve watching Shark Tank on TV, hanging out with my man, petting the fur babies, and then going to bed around 10ish. Call me lame, but I’m perfectly content with that kind of Friday night. Just thinking about it makes me think about how awesome it would be if a college major like this actually existed!

Traveling Wherever, Whenever

Although a lot of college major programs have study abroad opportunities available, it just doesn’t seem the same as getting to travel whenever and wherever you want. When traveling, ensuring your stuff is in the best luggage sets is crucial to stay stress-free. In the typical college major program, you actually have to come back to reality and take courses that will help you get a job. The dreamy traveling major actually lets you hop a plane, boat, train, or car to anywhere your little heart desires.

Where are some of the places you would go if this was your college major? I think I would try to go to:

• Australia
• London
• La Jolla
• Bahamas

Just to name a few!

Blogging

I am still waiting on the day when this college major is actually going to exist! Even though I’ve finished my bachelor’s degree (and I’m very close to being done with my master’s), I still think it would be awesome to take courses specifically designed for those interested in blogging.

As you can tell, there are plenty of blogs and bloggers on the internet, but can you imagine how awesome it would be to sit in class with like-minded bloggers and bounce ideas off of them? I feel like it would be one ginormous brainstorming session! Of all the ones I’ve listed, I think that this one actually has potential. Who else wishes that blogging was a college major that actually existed?

Here are some courses I think would be a great for a blogging college major:

• Finding and purchasing a domain (affiliate link)
• Developing useful and relevant content
• Creating a blog using WordPress
• Engaging via social media
• Marketing content

Playing Video Games (Mostly for the Guys)

I know there are girls who play video games but I’m going to go out on a limb and say that there are probably quite a few guys who wish that playing video games was a college major that existed in real life.

I’ve heard of plenty of people going into video game design and various outlets related to that, but there is serious work behind that. I think that most of the people that want to just play games are looking for entertainment more than work. I could be wrong, but that’s just my assumption. Personally, I don’t play video games so this would be an awful college major for me to take on, but I’m sure there are tons of people that would enjoy it (at least for a little while).
