Last month, I went on a closet purge and decided it was time to get some new items. When I visited a nearby shopping center, I didn’t like any of the items I saw and couldn’t help but feel as though I needed an entire wardrobe makeover.
After my unsuccessful shopping trip, I searched the internet for personal styling services that weren’t extremely expensive.
That was the moment I first learned about Stitch Fix and Golden Tote.
Both services caught my eye because they required little effort on my part. The initial process for both Stitch Fix and Golden Tote was very straightforward and simple – something I really appreciated since I was already feeling overwhelmed with the whole wardrobe makeover process.
Quick Stitch Fix Overview
In case you missed my Stitch Fix review, make sure you check it out to get all the specific details about this online styling service. You’ll also be able to read about the clothing items and accessories I got, as well as what I thought of the service as a whole.
When you first sign up for Stitch Fix, you will be asked to create a detailed style profile that asks some basic information (i.e. size, body shape), as well as detailed information about what you are looking for.
With this service, you decide which date you would like to receive your shipment (yes, it gets delivered right to your door!) and if you would like to schedule automatic shipments. It’s important to mention that the current wait time for receiving a fix is about four weeks at this point due to growing popularity.
Other important things to know:
- Free shipping both ways
- Five items included in every fix (all items are surprises)
- Personalized note from a stylist
- Can return individual items
- $20 styling fee required but can be applied to your final order
- If you keep all five items, you receive a 25% discount
- You have three days to decide if you want to keep or return
Quick Golden Tote Overview
I received my first Golden Tote shortly after my first fix came, so August was practically Christmas for me! With this online styling service, you can either purchase a $49 tote and receive two to three items, or you can choose the $149 tote and get five to seven items. Since I was in need of quite a few pieces, I chose to do the larger tote this time.
Golden Tote also has a style profile for buyers to complete, but it is definitely not as detailed as the one Stitch Fix requires. There is one line that asks about any items you don’t want, so I used that space to fill out some additional details about what I wanted (i.e. I don’t want to receive any dresses but I would like to receive more long sleeve shirts in this tote).
When you sign up for a tote, you will be allowed to choose one or two items that will definitely be included in your shipment, but the rest will be a surprise. Make sure you choose your correct sizes in the style profile so that you receive items that fit you!
Other important things to know:
- Box is all or nothing (you can’t return just one item)
- You pay for shipping
- New totes go on sale on the first Monday of each month
- Shipping typically takes a week and a half to two weeks
- No styling fee
Deciding Which One is Best
I’m being totally honest when I say that I was completely impressed with both services. Although Stitch Fix was a bit more pricey, I got some amazing items that have quickly become some of my favorite things to wear. I ended up keeping all five of my items which allowed me to receive the 25% discount (which saved me about almost $90).
The advantage with Golden Tote is that the prices are much more reasonable and the items you receive are just as good as those you would get with Stitch Fix. I think the biggest downside with this service is that the style profile is truly lacking, so you may get a bunch of items that you have no desire to keep. I hope that this is something that gets changed in the future! Whether you spend your time online browsing these two different sites, checking easy and quick hair transformation with U part wig or visiting your favorite social media sites – we hope this review helped you make your decision.
And the Winner Is…
If I have to choose, I would say Golden Tote is the winner.
My main reason is related to cost. I received six items in my tote and only paid a little over $150 when you include shipping. When you calculate it out, that equals about $25 per item. Not a bad deal if you ask me, especially since the items were high quality and from nice designers (such as those featured in Anthropologie)!
Ultimately, both Stitch Fix and Golden Tote are great online styling services that I would highly recommend to anyone. I will definitely be purchasing from both of them again!
